Gerolsteiner (cycling team)

The Team Gerolsteiner was a German from 1997 to 2008 existing cycling team, which held last UCI ProTeam status. The team was sponsored by drinks manufacturer Gerolsteiner Brunnen.

History

The team was founded in 1997 as a professional cycling team Schauff Oeschelbronn team manager Hans -Michael Holczer. Since 1999 it was called the team Gerolsteiner after Gerolsteiner led the sponsorship of the same name by Dieter Koslar and 1998 teams founded ceased.

With the commitment of Georg Totschnig in 2001, the team was able to jump into the GS -I category. For 2003, we qualified for the first time for the Tour de France and ex-pro Reimund Dietzen took over the task of the sporty conductor Rolf Golz. On 4 September 2007 Gerolsteiner announced not to extend the current contract until the end of 2008. A successor sponsor was not found, so that team boss Holczer was forced on 28 August 2008, to announce the dissolution of the racing team at the end of the 2008 season.

On 14 October 2008 the team Gerolsteiner told not to withdraw only at the end of the season, but with immediate effect from cycling due to the positive doping samples (A - samples) by Stefan Schumacher and Bernhard Kohl at the Tour de France.

Achievements

The first notable success after the founding of the team was winning the team classification at the Tour of Austria in 1999.

As a result, the drivers of the team Gerolsteiner also get a number of international successes and numerous national individual time trial championship and road championships by Michael Rich, Uwe Peschel and Georg Totschnig. For example, Uwe Peschel won (2002) and Michael Rich (2003 and 2004) at the Grand Prix des Nations. The year 2008 seemed at first to be the most successful year of the team. On the 8th and the 20th stage of the Tour de France 2008 Stefan Schumacher won two individual time trial of the Tour and wore the yellow jersey for 2 days. Bernhard Kohl won the first Austrian to the mountain classification, and thus the maillot à pois rouges with 128 mountain points ( 48 points ahead of the runner-up ). Season 2006
