Background

In Girl Lennon describes a dream woman. Musically, the song is reminiscent of the McCartney composition Michelle. Paul McCartney, who also composed a part at the end of the song, was inspired to do so by the theme song of the movie Alexis Zorbas.

Recording

On November 11, 1965, the Beatles had to work on the album Rubber Soul complete, so it could still appear in time for Christmas 1965. On this day, she completed several songs, and in the evening Girl was taken as the last song for the album. The recordings took place at London's Abbey Road Studios. Produced the song by George Martin, Norman Smith assisted. The Beatles recorded two takes of girl. Then vocals and lead guitar were added in the overdub process. George Harrison played a also a distorted guitar solo, which was not included in the final mix.

Publication

Girl was released less than a month after his admission on 3 December 1965 the album Rubber Soul. As a single, the song was not decoupled, but was part of some later compilations. 2011 appeared exclusively on iTunes a so-called mashup Girl, And I Love Her and Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!
