Gnas is a market town with 1920 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the south- east of Styria in the district of Southeastern Styria.

Geography

Geographical Location

Gnas is located 38 km south-east of Graz, about 10 km south of the district capital field creek in East Styrian Hill Country.

Coat of arms

The first styling of the coat of arms is unknown because the documents were destroyed by a fire. The Roman- German king and later emperor Ferdinand I gave the princely market on January 19, 1552 a new coat of arms. Since Gnas was in the first half of the 16th century in the possession of the male line of the extinct race of the rich burgers and this resulted in a blue wolf in the shield, and the Gnasener coat of arms was designed.
