Geography

Holzgünz is located about 8 km east of Memmingen in the Danube -Iller region in central Bavaria.

The municipality consists of the districts Holzgünz and Schwaighausen.

The municipality includes the villages Holzgünz Holzgünz and Schwaighausen.

History

The village appears already in 1167 with the donation Isengrimschen and 1270 is first mentioned by name. Holzgünz belonged since the Middle Ages, a free imperial city of Memmingen, more precisely the Crusaders of the Memmingen top Hospitals. With the Imperial Diet of 1803 the city became part of Bavaria. In the course of administrative reform in the Kingdom of Bavaria was born with the congregation of 1818, the current community.
