Honorific nicknames in popular music
Nickname in popular music are terms usually get the artist by fans and media, or more rarely give yourself too. You can have respect for religion, for prestige or for the family. Mostly they are used for better identification of the artist to the public.
Such epithets were given already in the classical music of Europe in the early 19th century. Examples are Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who was then known as "The father of modern music", and Johann Sebastian Bach, who was given the title "The father of modern piano music". Today such epithets particularly in the U.S. space are common. Therefore, these are mostly used in English and not translated into German (eg King of Pop instead of king of pop music ).
