James Robert Jones

James Robert Jones ( born May 5, 1939 in Muskogee, Oklahoma ) is an American politician (Democratic Party) and diplomat.

Jones received his bachelor's degree in 1961 from the University of Oklahoma in 1964 and his LL.B. from the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington. From 1961 to 1968 he was the United States Army in reserve. During this time he served from 1964 to 1965 as a Captain in the Army counterintelligence. 1964 Jones was admitted to the Bar of Oklahoma, and the District of Columbia and practiced now in Tulsa.

1972 Jones was elected as a Democrat to Congress and represented there, from 3 January 1973 to 3 January 1987 State of Oklahoma House of Representatives of the United States. 1984 Jones served as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention. In the elections of 1986, he opted not to run again for a seat in the House of Representatives and tried unsuccessfully to instead post a senator.

From 1989 to 1993, Jones was Chairman of the American Stock Exchange. U.S. President Bill Clinton then appointed him Ambassador of the United States in Mexico. Served in this office Jones of 1993 until 1997.
