Page Belcher

Page Henry Belcher (* April 21, 1899 in Jefferson, Grant County, Oklahoma; † August 2, 1980 in Midwest City, Oklahoma ) was an American politician. Between 1951 and 1953 he represented the eighth and 1953-1973 the first electoral district of the state of Oklahoma in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Page Belcher attended high school in Jefferson and Medford and then studied at the Friends University in Wichita (Kansas ) and the University of Oklahoma in Norman, where he learned the law. In this course he took part as a soldier in the First World War. Later he was a bailiff at the district court in Garfield County. After qualifying as a lawyer Belcher began to work in his new profession from 1936 in Enid. There he was appointed in 1938 to the municipal judge.

Belcher was a member of the Republican Party. Within his party he got into Oklahoma State as Executive Secretary to the Board. In 1941 he became secretary of Congressman Ross Rizley. Belcher was also a member of the school board of the city of Enid.

1950 Belcher was selected in the eighth district of Oklahoma in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he replaced George H. Wilson on January 3, 1951. After the eighth constituency was abolished. For this reason, Belcher 1952 competed in the first district of the state to seek re-election to Congress. After his successful election, he resolved on January 3, 1953, George B. Schwabe. In the following years, Belcher was confirmed in each case in his office. He was able to complete in Congress between January 1951 and January 3, 1973 3 total eleven consecutive legislative periods.

1972 Page Belcher ran no more for another term. After leaving Congress, he withdrew into retirement, which he spent in Midwest City. There he died in 1980.
