Ulysses S. Stone

Ulysses Stevens Stone ( * December 17, 1878 in Weldon, DeWitt County, Illinois, † December 8, 1962 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma ) was an American politician. Between 1929 and 1931 he represented the fifth electoral district of the state of Oklahoma in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

In 1894, Ulysses Stone moved with his parents to Jones in Oklahoma, where he attended the public schools. He then studied at the University of Oklahoma in Norman. Between 1894 and 1905, Stone worked in the banking industry in Jones. Since 1905 he worked in Norman and Oklahoma City in the oil business.

Stone was a member of the Republican Party. In 1918, he competed unsuccessfully for the office of Governor of Oklahoma. Also unsuccessful was his candidacy for the U.S. Senate, which he strove, 1926. In 1928 he was in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC selected. There he broke on March 4, 1929, the Democrats Fletcher B. Swank, whom he had defeated in the elections. But since he already lost in the next election against Swank, Stone was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1931. In 1934, he ran unsuccessfully for a return to the House of Representatives.

After the end of his time in Congress Ulysses Stone took his private business in the oil industry again. He was also active in the real estate business. He died in December 1962 in Oklahoma City and was also buried there.
