John Newbold Camp

John Newbold "Happy" Camp ( born May 11, 1908 in Enid, Oklahoma, † September 27, 1987 ) was an American politician. Between 1969 and 1975 he represented the sixth electoral district of the state of Oklahoma in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Camp attended the public schools in Blackwell, Douglas and Waukomis Oklahoma. After studying at the University Enid, he began a career in banking. In this area, he rose to the head of Waukomis State Bank. Politically Camp was a member of the Republican Party. Between 1942 and 1962 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Oklahoma. From 1967 to 1968 he headed the public committee that State. Camp was in both the youth organization of his party and in the party itself on the board, both at district and at the state level.

He was in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC 1968 chosen, where he replaced James Vernon Smith on January 3, 1969. After he was re-elected in the next two congressional elections each, Camp was able to complete a total of three parliamentary terms in Congress until January 3, 1975. In the elections of 1974 he was defeated Glenn English of the Democratic Party. One reason for his defeat was the Watergate scandal, which was then all the Republican politicians in elected offices caused problems, even if they were not personally involved in the scandal.

After the end of his time in Congress, John Camp withdrew from politics. He spent his life in Waukomis. There he was also buried.
