Köngernheim

Köngernheim is a municipality in the district Mainz -Bingen, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Nierstein - Oppenheim, has its administrative headquarters in the town of Oppenheim.

Geography

The wine is between Mainz and Worms at Selz and is agricultural. Until Mainz is about 20 km to 41 km and Wiesbaden to Frankfurt am Main 57 km away.

To Köngernheim includes the residential places Untermühle and the Hermann.

Neighboring municipalities are Friesenheim, Hahnheim, waders and Undenheim.

Through the western part Köngernheims the Selz flows.

History

The first mention of the name of the place in the Lorsch Codex on February 27, 782 as Cuningesheim ( = Königheim, settlement of the king-men ). In the second mention 804 is the local name Cuningeroheim.

A church is first mentioned in 1299. The sandstone walls of the portal as well as a Gothic windows date from the 14th century.

The Catholic Church was built in 1931/32. Until then, the Protestant church served as a simultaneous church.

The local council in Köngernheim consists of 16 council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 of personalized proportional representation, and the honorary mayor as chairman location.

Coat of arms

1958 a new local coat of arms was adopted: " In the upper shield 2 1/2 balls in the bottom plate part a red" K " ". Before that, led as a local coat of arms 5 silver balls on a black background, the family arms of the Counts SICKINGEN. A court seal with equal representation, however, is known since 1610 and provides an original seal impression since 1725.

Culture and sights

The lower mill is built according to oral tradition, with a millstone to 1608 in the 16th century. It is now a restaurant and hotel.
