Member states of the United Nations
The United Nations belong to 193 countries. The following table shows all Member States with their accession date:
- Founding members
- Founding members, which no longer exist, or the like.
- Former members (countries that no longer exist or similar).
Accession process
The accession process is regulated in Article 4 in Chapter II of the Charter of the United Nations. The applicant must be recommended by the Security Council. Can then take him by resolution the General Assembly.

Observer States
The Holy See and the State of Palestine have observer status at the United Nations. They are therefore non-member States without voting rights.
