Monte Romano
Monte Romano is a municipality with 2019 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Viterbo in the Italian region of Lazio.
Geography
Monte Romano is located 82 km northwest of Rome, 29 km south-west of Viterbo and 21 km east of the Tyrrhenian coast of Lido di Tarquinia. The municipality is located in the Maremma Laziale, the undulating, sparsely populated countryside between Bolsena and the coast. The municipality covers an altitude 27-370 m slm In Monte Romano is a military training area.
The neighboring municipalities are Blera, Tarquinia, Tolfa (RM ), Tuscania, Vetralla, Viterbo.
The municipality is located in the seismic zone 3 (slightly endangered).
Traffic
Monte Romano is located on the strada stadale SS 1, which connects the Via Aurelia to the Via Cassia. The nearest railway station is located in Tarquinia on the railway line Rome -Pisa.

Policy
Maurizio Testa ( civil list) was elected in June 2009 for the mayor. He won the election against his predecessor Domenico Pengo ( 2004-2009).
Attractions
The Castello Roccarespampani was built in 1607 by Ottavio Tassoni d' Este. Nearby are the ruins of the previous castle, now called Rocca Vecchia and the Ponte di Fra Cirillo across the river Traponzo.
