Norway women's national football team

The Norwegian women 's national soccer team represents the Kingdom of Norway in international women's football. It is a selection of the Norwegian Football Association.

The Norwegian women's football national team is one of the most successful women's football teams in the world. It is the only team that could be European and World champion and Olympic champion. It reached in five of six World Cup tournaments at least the quarter-finals, and 1995 world champion. By European standards, they could from 1987 in each European Football Championship to reach at least the semi-finals until 1997, and in 1987 and 1993 European champion.

However, after the Olympic gold medal in 2000 the team was unable to win more titles. The games in Athens in 2004 were missed and was in the quarter finals at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing last stop. At Algarve Cup 2009 all group matches have been lost, so that they slipped in the FIFA World Ranking end of March 2009 to ninth place. In June, Norway fell even from 10th place. This was the worst result until then. At the European Championship in Finland, only the third place behind Germany and France was achieved in the group stage, so that one was an outsider in the quarter-final match against Sweden. Here, however, the team was able to increase and surprisingly won 3-1. The semi-final against Germany was then, despite good performance, especially in the first half, lost with 1:3. After Norway rose again to number 7 in the FIFA world rankings.

Also at the World Cup 2011 Norway was not convincing. Although they could beat 3-1 in an unofficial friendly match before the world 's number one USA World Cup, but at the World Cup it held to a 1-0 victory against World Cup newcomer Equatorial Guinea. The departure in the first round also participating in the Olympic Games in 2013 has been missed.

The poor showing at the World Cup and the defeat in the first European Championship qualifier against Iceland, meant that Norway with 12th place occupied until then worst position in the FIFA world rankings on 23 September 2011. In March 2012, the team was still one more place in the rankings after also at the Algarve Cup 2012, no performance increase was only rank 7 was occupied. For the EM 2013, Norway failed to qualify directly only on the final day of qualifying. Although ultimately successful qualification trainer Eli Landsem was released and with Even Pellerud, the coach under the Norway 1995 World Champion was obliged again. However, under Pellerud the team was able to initially show no increase in performance. So four preparation games were lost on the EM, including for the first time against Switzerland. History

The Norwegians denied their first international match in the fifth staging of the Nordic Football Championship Women, but lost all three games against the Scandinavian neighbors who unsubscribe been since 1973 and 1974 respectively internationals. Even in 1979 it was enough to not win. Only at the unofficial European Championship in 1979 scored the first victory against Northern Ireland. Since the second match against Italy but was lost, left the Norwegians out in the first round. In the following two Nordic Championships after all it three draws in six games. In 1981, BUL Oslo on "Women 's World Invitation Tournament" in the Republic of China in part, finishing in fourth place. Some of the games that have been partially discharged against other club teams, are counted by FIFA as the official international matches in Norway, but not considered by the NFF. For the first European Football Championship to Norway failed to qualify, but was able to win the title at the second discharge in 1987. 1988 won the Norwegians, the " FIFA Women's Invitational Tournament " in China and had established itself so among the top teams in women's football.

World cup

Norway is one of the three European teams who participated in all six World Cup tournaments. In 1995, she was the first European team champion after they were four years earlier failed in the final at the U.S. in neighboring Sweden. Then the semi-finals twice reached. 2011 retired Norway for the first time in the preliminary round of the World Cup after it was lost to Brazil and Australia. Only against World Cup newcomer Equatorial Guinea scored a victory, but more than one goal could not also be achieved. European

In qualifying for the European Championship 2013 in Sweden Norway met with Belgium, Bulgaria, Iceland, Northern Ireland and Hungary. The first game took place in Iceland on 17 September 2011. Iceland is the only team from this group, had already lost to the Norway game. At Algarve Cup 2009 Iceland was the first win against Norway. Norway failed to qualify through a 2-1 win against Iceland for the European Championship until the final day.

The European participants for 2012 were calculated at the 2011 World Cup, took part in the Norway. Through the first-time in the preliminaries from, while the other four European teams reached the quarter- finals, Norway failed to qualify for London.

The national team participated in all the preceding editions of the Algarve Cup, each year participate in the almost all of the best women's national teams. Squad for the Algarve Cup 2014: Ingvild Stensland were nominated again and Cathrine Dekkerhus who turned out for the World Cup qualifier against Greece. In contrast, Caroline Graham Hansen, who departed from Greece prematurely because of a thigh strain, was not taken into account. Germany

Norway is the enemy against which the German women 's national soccer team has played the most matches.
