Oberönz

Oberönz is a town in the municipality Herzogenbuchsee in the district of Wangen in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

On 1 January 2008 the former municipality merged with the municipality Herzogenbuchsee. The new municipality is named Herzogenbuchsee.

Geography

Oberönz is located on 465 m above sea level. M., 1 km southwest of Herzogenbuchsee and 8 km west-southwest of the town of Langenthal ( straight line ). The village extends into the broad gravel plain of Oenz, on their exit from the Molassehügeln the higher central plateau, in the Upper Aargau.

The 3.0 km ² large former village area consists of a weakly in relief section of the northern Bernese Mittelland. The main part of the area is occupied by up to 2 km wide level of Oenz at Herzogenbuchsee. The Oenz flows from south to north by the municipality spell. In the southwest, the plain of the forest hills Aspi (490 m above sea level. M. ) and new oak is limited. On the north flank of the height of Steinhofgründe is with 535 meters. M. reached the highest point of Oberönz. In the extreme west of the former municipality extends into the marsh area Chlepfimoos and almost to the shores of Burgäschisees. From the municipality surface 1997 14 % came from settlements, 38 % of forest and woody plants and 48% to agriculture.

To Oberönz the outer settlement moss belongs ( 465 m above sea level. M. ) on the northern edge of the Aspiwaldes.

Population

With 941 inhabitants ( end of 2007) Oberönz was one of the smaller communities of the Canton of Bern. Of the residents 90.8 % are German, 3.6 % and 2.3 % speak Turkish- Albanian (as of 2000). The population of Oberönz amounted in 1850 to 385 residents in 1900 to 327 inhabitants. During the 20th century, the population grew slowly until 1960 on 463 people. Thereafter, a rapid population increase was recorded until 1990. Since then, the number of inhabitants lies always in the range of about 880 people. The settlement area of Oberönz has grown together seamlessly with those of Herzogenbuchsee and Niederönz.

Economy

Oberönz was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, agriculture, thanks to the fertile soil and the livestock and forestry have an important place in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available. In Oberönz today operations of the construction and transport industry and a craft workshop are represented. In recent decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the region Langenthal - Herzogenbuchsee, partially also in the Solothurn area.

Traffic

The village is traffic- technically quite well developed. It is near the main road from Bern to Zurich 1, branching off from the main road here to Solothurn. By bus, which operates direct flight from Herzogenbuchsee to Wynigen, Oberönz is connected to the public transport network.

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1139 under the name Oentze. Later, the names Onza ( 1166 ) published, Onze ( 1248 ), Honzen ( 1258 ), Uenzo ( 1263 ) and Onz ( 1278 ); clearly is just the name of 1356 ( Obernönze ). After that, The notations upper Öntze ( 1367 ), Obernöntz and Obren Entz ( 1378 ) have survived.

In the Middle Ages Oberönz was initially under the suzerainty of the Dukes of Zahringen, from 1218 that of Kyburg and belonged to the royal court of the provost Herzogenbuchsee. In 1406 Oberönz came under Bernese rule and the Bailiwick cheeks has been assigned. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798 ), the village belonged to the district during the Helvetic Republic from 1803 to the cheeks and upper cheeks Office, which received the status of an office district with the new cantonal constitution of 1831. On 1 January 2008, the municipality merged with the municipality Oberönz Herzogenbuchsee.

Attractions

In the old town and some characteristic farmhouses of the Bernese country style from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved. Oberönz does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish Herzogenbuchsee.
