Geography
Oberschönegg is located about 20 km north- east of Memmingen in the Danube -Iller region in Upper Swabia.
Expansion of the municipal area
The municipality consists of the districts Oberschönegg, Dietershofen b. Babenhausen and wine Ried.
The municipality includes the villages of Oberschönegg Oberschönegg, Dietershofen, Märxle and wine Ried. The 1580 referred to in the Salbuch of Pflegamts Schönegg settlement Jürgen Langer and until 1933 passed wasteland Berghof have left the place. Wine Reid existed until the Thirty Years' War from two premises, then only from a yard.
History
The castle was the seat of an important Altenschönegg Reichsministerialgeschlechts. Since 1355 she was Pflegamt of the Bishopric of Augsburg. With the Imperial Diet of 1803, the city fell to Bavaria. The hamlet of Ried wine was from 1538 / 39-1803 Prince Fugger - Babenhausen. The place was in the course of district reform on 1 July 1972 by the newly formed district Illertissen Unterallgäu.

On 1 May 1978, the formerly independent communities Dietershofen were incorporated in Babenhausen and wine Ried.

Basis of the new municipality coat of arms is the emblem of the old Bishopric of Augsburg, the split of red and silver shield. Oberschönegg was Pflegamt as an important administrative center within the Bishopric. In the medieval history of the three Schlegel point from the arms of the Lords of Schönegg whose family seat was located in present-day municipality. 1998 there were 334 in the manufacturing sector and in trade and transport, no social insurance contributions at the workplace.
