Pontevico

Pontevico is a municipality with 7130 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Brescia, in the Italian region of Lombardy and is located in the ancient region Venetia et Histria. It is located 32 km from Brescia on the border with the province of Cremona on Oglio.

Districts are Bettegno, Campazzo, Chiesuola ( Dossi ) Gauzza, Incassano and Torchiera. The neighboring municipalities are Alfianello, Bassano Bresciano, Corte de ' Frati (CR), Robecco d' Oglio (CR ), San Gervasio Bresciano, Verolanuova and Verolavecchia. The municipality belongs to the Region Agraria n 13 - pianura Bresciana Centrale and Parco Nord dell'Oglio

Agriculture and textile industries provide the majority of jobs. Around 40 % of residents are working.

History

In the 11th century Brescia founded in Pontevico a castle, which belonged to 1127 the Martinengo family. In May 1208, the used of Cremona, Brescia podestà of Milan and Brescia, who had allied himself was expelled and retired to the castle Pontevico that went also lost in September of this year. During his disputes with the Lombards outsourced Emperor Frederick II in the years 1237 and 1238 for a short time at Pontevico. 1251 is also detectable Conrad IV in Pontevico.

During the Spanish War of Succession, Prince Eugene had his headquarters in 1701 Pontevico. 1977 collapsed the bridge over the Oglio.
