Rachid Mekhloufi

Rachid Mekhloufi, even in the spelling Mekloufi ( born August 12, 1936 in Sétif / Algeria ) is a former French and Algerian football player and coach.

The club career

Rachid Mekhloufi came at the start of the season in 1954/55 from Algeria, which at the time was part of the French colonial possessions and administratively integrated into the French Republic was ( Algérie française ); a countryman had recommended him to the charge of the first division club AS Saint- Étienne. Meanwhile, coach Jean Snella looked at the talented players in the trial long half an hour to and ruled: "Who knows a lot about football, recognizes Rachids class of the ball. " A few days later, in a pre-season game, he led the still unknown to him teammates with his inspiration, technique and an eye for the situation and also scored three of the six goals. The playmaker used as an external rotor or inside right striker was also been appointed for the first time, almost three years later with the Greens for the first time French champion, and in 1956 he was in the French national team. He was also second in 1956 and 1957 fifth- leading scorer in the French top flight, although his team possessed with Eugène Njo - Léa also a very successful real striker.

The mid-50s had the disputes for national independence as well developed in Algeria that the independence movement Front de Libération Nationale from Algerian footballers a kind of unofficial national team was formed, which took in numerous countries around the world to promote their political goals. In April 1958 also played Mekhloufi - inter alia besides his colleagues from the Équipe Tricolore, Abdelaziz Ben Mustapha Zitouni and Tifour (both AS Monaco) - for this FLN selection; the French Football Federation FFF responded immediately and locked all three kickers. His club refrained from then on Mekhloufis services, who played in the following years for Algeria, only briefly interrupted by a commitment at Servette Geneva, where he coach Jean Snella had brought.

It was then like eight years earlier at his trial: the first touch, he moved the crowd at the Stade Geoffroy- Guichard in its spell. He remained the Stéphanois also in the second division faithful (1962 /63), and in the next five seasons, he led them to three additional championships: in the year of resurgence in 1964, had returned as manager Snella to ASSE, then in 1967 and 1968 under the Ex - coach Batteux, the Mekhloufi had brought in 1956 to the Bleus. In this last season, Saint- Etienne was also cup winner and thus won his first Gold-Filled ( league and cup in the same season ). Mekhloufi had a definitive interest: in the final led the Girondins Bordeaux after just four minutes by 1-0 before the goalscoring playmaker of the Greens the balance and a quarter of an hour before the end, also scored the winning goal after half an hour - a penalty which he even had to repeat.
