Seitenroda
Seitenroda is a municipality in the southern part of the Thuringian Saale- wood - country circuit and part of the joint management Southern Saale valley.
Geography and Geology
Seitenroda is about 2 km east of Kahla and east behind the Leuchtenburg. The steadily rising and winding L1062 leads past the castle and directly through the town east to Eineborn with connection to the Federal Highway 9 at Hermsdorf. The hilly district of the village comprises 405 ha limestone and colored stone weathered soils prevail. Except for the valleys, these surfaces are ground water away. The hills and steeper slopes are forested and provided with balks.
History
The first mention of Seitenroda took place in 1280. With the construction of the light castle probably was accompanied by the establishment of the village; the proven documentary Ersterwähnungen of village and castle are close together. The castle was first mentioned in 1221.
Seitenroda 1669-1713 was affected by witch hunts. Two women and two men got into witch trials. The output is unknown, since the files were destroyed.
