Sint Anthonis

Sint Anthonis ( listen? / I ) is a municipality in the Dutch province of North Brabant. The municipality belongs to the land of Cuijk.

The village of Sint Anthonis has less than 5000 inhabitants. It is located mainly around the central square, which is also called " Brink " and the place brought the nickname Brink village.

History

Sint Anthonis is officially a parish since 1477. Until 1794, it belonged to the Independent outdoors glory Boxmeer. Patron and namesake of the village is St. Anthony the Great.

The community was originally called Oploo, St. Anthonis en Ledeacker. In 1913 she had no 2000 inhabitants. On January 1, 1994, there was a border and name change. The community Oploo, St. Anthonis en Ledeacker was merged with the municipality Wanroij to a new community, which was initially the name of St. Anthony, which was shortly thereafter changed in Sint Anthonis.

Oelbroeck

The original name of the village of Sint Anthonis was Oelbroec, initially without end -k. Around the year 1312, the name was first mentioned in records. After 1500 the name Oelbroeck is hardly ever mentioned. First, it is still called Sint Anthonis in Oelbroeck, but from 1590 the name is administratively no longer mentioned. In the ecclesiastical sphere, the name held, however, continue at least until the 19th century. Even today, the name is still used, for example, for sports clubs.
