Sornac

Sornac ( Saurnac in Occitan ) is a commune with 840 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Corrèze, in the Limousin region. The municipality is a member of the Association of Municipalities Bugeat - Sornac - Millevaches au Coeur. The inhabitants call themselves Sornacois (it).

Geography

The municipality is located in the Massif Central on the Plateau de Millevaches and thus also in the Regional Natural Park Millevaches en Limousin.

Tulle, prefecture of the department is located, about 75 kilometers south-west, Égletons about 35 kilometers southwest and Ussel about 15 kilometers southeast.

Neighboring communities of Sornac are Le Mas- d'Artige in the north, La Courtine in the Northeast, Saint- Rémy and Bellechassagne in the east, Saint- Germain- Lavolps in the Southeast, Saint- Sulpice- les -Bois in the southwest, Millevaches in the west and Saint- Setiers and Féniers in the northwest.

The Diège, a tributary of the Dordogne, which flows through the municipal area.

Traffic

The village is located about 20 kilometers northwest of the junction 23 of the A89 autoroute.

History

The name derives from the old Sornac word of " Sorne " and means " dark place ".
