Takuya Izawa

Takuya Izawa (Japanese伊 沢 拓 也, Takuya Izawa; born June 1, 1984 in Tokyo Prefecture ) is a Japanese racing driver. He started from 2008 to 2013 in the Super Formula (Formula Nippon ). In 2014 he appears in the GP2 series.

Career

Izawa began his motorsport career in 1995 in karting, where he was active until 2001. In 2002 he moved to Formula racing and was fifth in the Japanese Formula 4 He also appeared in two races in the German Formula Renault. 2003 drove Izawa parallel in Japan and Europe. In Japan, was fifth in the Japanese Formula Dream. In Europe, he competed in the German Formula Renault, which he finished in seventh place overall, and in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup, where he remained without points. In addition, Izawa participated in several races of the Dutch Formula Renault.

Except for two starts in the German Formula Renault Izawa joined in the next two years only in the Japanese Formula Dream on. After the 2004 third overall occupied, in 2005 he was fourth. In 2006, Izawa in the Japanese Formula 3 Championship, where he finished sixth overall for two consecutive years. In 2006 he drove for Honda Racing Toda, 2007 for the Honda Team Real. While he scored two victories in his first season, he remained winless in his second year. 2007 debuted Izawa also for Real Racing in a Honda in the Super GT, Japanese GT Championship.

2008 Izawa joined the Formula Nippon Autobacs Racing Team Aguri to that lead with Honda engines. He succeeded at first to let his teammate Yuji Ide behind him and he was with a fourth place as best result overall tenth. Counter Ide he sat down with 19 by 2 points. In parallel, he started for the Autobacs Racing Team Aguri in a Honda in the Super GT. He shared the cockpit with Ralph Firman. The two of them stood on the podium three times and occupied the eighth place overall. 2009 saw Izawa in Formula Nippon in the Honda racing teams to Dandelion Racing. A second place at the season opener at Fuji was his best finish. He finished the season on top of the eighth. With 14 to 11 points, he sat down against internally by Richard Lyons. In the Super GT Izawa won together with Firman for the Autobacs Racing Team Aguri ever a race in Fuji and Motegi. The two scored 81 points and was runner-up behind André Lotterer and Juichi Wakisaka that had reached 88 points.

2010 was Loïc Duval, the Master of last year, its new Formula Nippon team-mate at Dandelion. While Duval finished the season with two wins and 39.5 points in third, Izawa was with a fifth place as best result and seven points in eleventh. In the Super GT Izawa joined this season for Team Kunimitsu. He shared the car with Naoki Yamamoto. The two closed the season off with two third places for best results on the eighth. 2011 denied Izawa for his fourth Dandelion Racing Formula Nippon season. With a fourth place as best result he was in ninth place in the championship. He lost the team-internal duel against Kodai Tsukakoshi with 11 to 26.5 points. In the Super GT Izawa was also ninth with Yamamoto. The best placement of the two was a second place.

2012 remained Izawa and Tsukakoshi at Dandelion in Formula Nippon. After a second place in Auto Polis Izawa won his first Formula Nippon race in the sport land SUGO. In the rest of the season was followed by other victories at Suzuka as well as in the non- championship for scoring Fuji Sprint Cup. In the overall standings, Izawa improved to third overall, which represents his best overall placement. Internal team was defeated with 41.5 to 43 points Tsukakoshi. On the master Kazuki Nakajima Izawa had a backlog of 4.5 points. In the Super GT Izawa, together with Yamamoto fifth. The two had achieved two second places as the best placements. 2013 graduated Izawa his sixth season in the race series, which was now renamed Super Formula, and entered again for Dandelion. With a win in the season opener at Suzuka he finished the season in seventh place in the drivers' standings. 2014 moved to Europe Izawa and received at ART Grand Prix a cockpit in the GP2 series. After the first race weekend, he finished eighth overall.
