Thorsten Weidner

Thorsten Weidner ( born December 29 1967 in Lauda ) is a former German fencer, who competed for the FC Tauberbischofsheim. In 1989 he was German Single Master with the foil.

After winning at the World Fencing Championship in 1985 and at the World Fencing Championship in 1986 with the team after final defeats against the Italians silver, the team 1987 in the occupation of Mathias Gey, Matthias Behr, Klaus Reichert, Ulrich fright and Thorsten Weidner became world champion against France. With Thomas Endres instead Klaus Reichert, the team won the silver medal at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, when they defeated the team from the Soviet Union in the final.

This was followed by team silver at the World Fencing Championship in 1989 against the Soviet Union. In the World Fencing Championships 1990 Thorsten Weidner finished fourth in both the individual and in the team competition. A year later the German team lost in the final against the Cubans. In the singles final Thorsten Weidner lost to his teammates Ingo Weissenborn.

At the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona Thorsten Weidner won the team gold together with the two Bonners Alexander Koch and Ulrich fright, and with the deaf bishop Heimern Udo Wagner and Ingo Weissenborn.

In the World Fencing Championships 1993 team with Uwe Römer instead Ulrich Schreck won the world title. A year later, Weidner won bronze in the individual standings. In the World Cup final with the team, the German team defeated the Italians.
