Tuomo Ruutu

Tuomo Ruutu Iisakki ( born February 16, 1983 in Vantaa ) is a Finnish professional ice hockey player. Since March 2014 he plays for the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League on the position of the center. He is the younger brother of Jarkko and Mikko Ruutu.

Career

Tuomo Ruutu began his professional career in 1999 at the Helsinki HIFK in the Finnish SM- liiga, after he had already played at the same club in the junior team. After that he went two seasons for local rivals Jokerit on the ice before he played a season for HIFK in the year 2002.

In the NHL Entry Draft 2001 Ruutu was selected in the first round of the ninth by the Chicago Blackhawks. In the 2003/2004 season, he made his NHL debut for the Blackhawks.

During the lockout in the 2004/05 season he recovered from injuries, but commented on the Ice Hockey World Championship for the Finnish television. The following season, he took part in only a few games since he was still hampered by injuries.

On 26 February 2008, the attacker was released to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Andrew Ladd.

Shortly before the Trade Deadline moved Ruutu on March 5, 2014 at the New Jersey Devils, the charges for Andrei Loktionov and a third-round vote in the NHL Entry Draft to Carolina in 2017.

Internationally

Internationally, he played for the first time at the World Cup of Hockey 2004 for the Finnish national team and there shot his first goal in the final against Canada. In addition, he participated in three World Hockey Championships and won with his team the bronze twice and once the silver medal. At the Olympic Games in 2014 he won the bronze medal with the Finnish national team.
