Väike-Õismäe

Väike- Õismäe ( in German " Little Flower Mountain" ) is a district (Estonian asum ) of the Estonian capital Tallinn. It is located in Haabersti district.

Description

Väike- Õismäe has 27,822 inhabitants (as of 1 May 2010). He is after Mustamae the Tallinn City district with the second highest number of inhabitants.

The 1968 projected Väike- Õismäe is next Mustamae (1958) and Lasnamäe (1973 ) one of the three Tallinn satellite towns that have arisen during the Soviet occupation of Estonia.

The design for Väike- Õismäe comes from the Estonian architects Malle Meelak and Mart port. He was implemented 1973-1984. The district was originally planned for 45,000 people. Model should be the urban planning concepts by the British architect Ebenezer Howard (1850-1928), with its geometric garden cities.

Unlike Mustamae with its small districts (micro Rajons ) Väike- Õismäe is planned as a major macro - Rajon in terms of a ring city. From the air, the image of a rose bloom results.

The center of the satellite town is an artificial Round Lake. The inner circle of five - to nine-story high-rise buildings are located in bricks. The outer circle form tower-like high-rise buildings with sixteen storeys. They are partly of brick and partly built in bricks. The green areas are spacious.

Schools, kindergartens and shops are grouped in a ring around the lake. Behind a ring road that connects Väike- Õismäe with the other parts of Tallinn, there are another four -story buildings.

To the west Väike- Õismäe to the 1.6 -square-kilometer Harku Lake ( Harku järv ).
