Vermont House of Representatives

The House of Representatives of Vermont (Vermont House of Representatives ) is the lower house of the Vermont General Assembly, the legislature of the U.S. state of Vermont.

The Houses of Parliament is composed of 150 deputies. Of which provide 66 choice districts each have a 42 and two representatives. Each of these units includes a fixed average rate of 4,100 inhabitants. Deputies are elected for two -year terms; limiting the terms of office does not exist. The conference hall of the House of Representatives is located together with the State Senate in Vermont State House in the capital, Montpelier.

Structure of the chamber

Speaker of the House is the Speaker of the House. He is initially elected by the majority faction of the chamber before the confirmation by the whole Parliament follows. The Speaker is also responsible for the course of legislation and monitors the shutdowns in the various committees. Current incumbent is Shap Smith of Morristown, deputy of the Democrats from the constituency Lamoille - Washington -1.

Other important office holders are the Majority Leader ( Majority Leader ) and the leader of the opposition (minority leader), who are elected by the respective fractions. The Democratic majority party is currently led by Lucy Leriche of Hardwick ( constituency Caledonia -2), Minority leader of the Republican Donald H. Turner of Milton ( electoral district Chittenden -9). In contrast to almost all other state legislatures still exists a third group: the Vermont Progressive Party, headed by Christopher Pearson of Burlington ( electoral district Chittenden -3 -4).
