Wankendorf

Wankendorf is a municipality in the district of Plön, in Schleswig- Holstein. Bansrade, Bockel Horn, Hunter Mountain, Kölling, Köllingbek, Kuhlrade, Löhndorf, Obendorf and Schimmelhof and the Good Löhndorf lie in the municipality. The Office Bokhorst - totter village has its administrative headquarters in Wankendorf.

Geography and transport

Wankendorf located in Wankendorfer Lake District, about 15 kilometers east of Neumünster near the lake and stumbling from Lake Belau. The municipality is situated on the main highway 21 from Kiel to Bad Segeberg.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1316. The place name derives from Wanikendhorpe, so the village Waniko. Totter village was founded by the Saxons when they tried to oust the contact from the region.

In 1866 the railway line Neumünster - ash mountain was opened. Wankendorf so got a railway station for passenger and freight transport. On December 2, 1911 was followed by the commissioning of the narrow-gauge railway Kiel Segeberg, this was in Wankendorf its own small railway station, also for passenger and freight transport. These two stations were not interconnected. The narrow-gauge railway was decommissioned on 31 December 1961, soon reduced it.

The present municipality was created in liquidating the estate districts in 1928, the witness Good Perdoel and other surrounding estates which still today. Since 1970 Wankendorf is a rural administrative center, which opens up more and more the industrial branch.

In 1985 also the movement of persons between Neumünster and mountain ash was set to 1988 sporadic freight cars were still delivered.
