Fleckeby

Fleckeby (Danish Flækkeby ) is a municipality in the district of Rendsburg -Eckernförde in Schleswig -Holstein. Fleckeby is the main town in Südschwansen.

Geography and transport

Fleckeby is located about halfway between Schleswig and Eckenförde on the Schlei. In the south the city borders on the Hüttener mountains. The Federal Highway 76 runs through the city.

History

The place was first in 1196 at the dissolution of the Schleswig Michaelis monastery mentioned as Fekabicol documented. The place name comes from the Danish and means about herb village ( feka ≈ swampweed ).

The church today Fleckeby was taken on February 12, 1974 by merging the municipalities Götheby -Holm and Fleckeby.

In Fleckeby is the Hardesvogtei. The building was the seat of the bailiff of the Hüttener Harde. Today, the house serves as a museum of Schleswig Harden. The Cross Church on Louisenlunder path is entered in the list of cultural monuments in Fleckeby.
