Galati Mamertino

Galati Mamertino is a city in the province of Messina in the Italian region Sicily, with 2720 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Galati Mamertino situated 114 km west of Messina.

The municipality belongs to Nebrodi. Basis of the economy of this area is agriculture. Are cultivated chestnuts, grapes and olives. The livestock includes mainly sheep, which is due to the still large uninhabited areas possible. Also carries the resulting cheese production to the success of agriculture.

Locally there is indeed a medical emergency, but the nearest hospital is located in Sant'Agata di Militello.

The neighboring municipalities are Frazzanò, Longi, San Salvatore di Fitalia and Tortorici.

Name origin

Entertainment / leisure activities

In Galati Mamertino there is next to numerous bars, which are located mainly in the Piazza, and Restaurants ( trattorias ) and pubs.

In the direction of San Basilio, there are a leisure pool, each with a field for soccer, volleyball and tennis. A few meters from the swimming pool can take a trip into the cool woods make ( Pineta), where with tables and seating, a place for picnics was created.

The weekly market is held regularly on Wednesdays on the large bus parking place ( near the Carabinieri, towards the outskirts ).

There is since about 2006, a children's play area with climbing frame and slide. Another small playground is located on the other side of the resort to the " Sant ' Antonio " district.
