Schülp bei Nortorf

Schülp b. Nortorf is a municipality near the city Nortorf in Schleswig-Holstein. It is located south of the lake Borgsdorfer between Sander and moors in Rendsburg -Eckernförde circle.

Geography and transport

Schülp situated about ten kilometers north of Neumünster between the 205 highway and the Federal Highway 7 from Neumünster to Rendsburg.

History

Prove megalithic monuments in the municipality that it was inhabited since the Stone Age.

The town was first mentioned in 1286 as Schullebvi or Sculleby. The meaning of the name is not entirely clear but is as much as " village by the Red " hot.

During the period of National Socialism itself a branch of the penitentiary Hamburg -Fuhlsbüttel was in Great Moor, the prisoners had to work in Schülper Torfwerk.
