Warder, Germany

Warder is a municipality in the district of Rendsburg -Eckernförde in Schleswig -Holstein. Old Mill Village and Seehof lie in the municipality.

Geography and transport

Warder is located about 15 km north of Neumünster, 17 km southeast of Rendsburg and 19 km southwest of Eckernförde in Westensee Nature Park. The Federal Highway 7 from Neumünster to Rendsburg runs through the municipality.

It lies at the Wardersee and on Brahmsee. Both lakes are extensive cottage areas.

History

In Warder several barrows, whose stones, however, were crushed and used for construction of houses stood.

Warder was originally two separate settlements that were mentioned in 1442 as Grote Werdere and Lutkenwerder. The village Lutkenwerder but was probably abandoned in the 16th century and its exact location is unknown today.

It is assumed that there is in Old Mill Village least since the first mention of the village in 1271, a water mill. Initially it was used as cereal and Lohemühle, today it is used for electricity generation from hydropower. Lohe was recovered from oak bark and used for tanning leather.

Warder was part of the competition Our village is beautiful excellent.

Policy

Of the nine seats in the municipal council voters Community BfW since the local elections 2008 six seats and the CDU three.

Economy

The community is predominantly agricultural. But even tourism and recreation have become important sources of income. Since 1877, Warder has a fish hatchery.
