Westerrönfeld

Westerroenfeld is an official belonging to municipality in the district of Rendsburg -Eckernförde in Schleswig -Holstein.

Geography and transport

The place is right on the North Sea-Baltic Canal. Neighboring municipalities are ( clockwise from the north): Rendsburg, Jevenstedt and Schülp. In earlier times there were in the territory of the municipality some heaths and inland dunes, of which only a few have survived.

Westerroenfeld is located on the main road 77 from Rendsburg to Itzehoe and the federal highway 202 which leads from St. Peter -Ording about Rendsburg coming towards Kiel and empties into Osterronfeld (junction Schacht-Audorf ) in the A 210. Thus, the community is indirectly also be linked to the A 7.

History

The place that was at a ford on the river Eider Ochsenweg was first mentioned in 1437 in Kiel heritage book.

During the Thirty Years War the Swedish troops, who Rendsburg besieged were stationed in Westerroenfeld, where there was looting in Westerroenfeld.

Since 1695 there is a Jewish cemetery in the town, were buried in the Jewish settlers from Rendsburg.

In the 18th century, more than 100 people died of the plague. For them, a cemetery was created specifically outside the town.

Beginning in 1901, the place was breakpoint Rendsburgerstrasse circular path that went from Rendsburg to Hohenwestedt. 1957 this route, however, was shut down.

The church was originally part of District (later Office) Jevenstedt. By refugees who have found a new home in Westerroenfeld, the number of residents grew after the Second World War from 1500 to 2500th 1948 then entered the church from office. On 1 January 2001 Westerroenfeld has abandoned the self-government and joined the Office Jevenstedt in again.
