62nd British Academy Film Awards
The ceremony of the 62nd British Academy Film Awards took place on 8 February 2009 at the Royal Opera House in London. The film awards from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts ( BAFTA ) were awarded in 23 categories. The event was hosted for the third time, the British presenter and film critic Jonathan Ross.
The nominations were announced on 15 January 2009, the nominees for the Young Investigator Award Orange Rising Star Award, and nominations for the best foreign-language film have already been published in advance.
The most nominations in advance had expected the U.S. Literaturverfilmung get The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, as well as the British film Slumdog Millionaire, which both came on eleven nominations. At the award ceremony sat down as the most successful film Slumdog Millionaire by, who received seven awards, including those in the categories of Best Film, Director and Screenplay. Germany was represented in the category Best Foreign Language Film with the RAF drama The Baader Meinhof Complex, but had against the French drama So many years I love you in the cold. As the best animated feature film Pixar's WALL- E was - of the Dee on earth honored, who was nominated six times for an Oscar. In the Best Actor category also translated by the favorite in the run for the Oscar actor. As a Best Actor Mickey Rourke ( The Wrestler ) and Kate Winslet were honored ( The Reader ), which had been considered in the same category for her performance in Revolutionary Road. Been completely ignored in the run-up was Mike Leigh's comedy Happy-Go- Lucky, the lead actress Sally Hawkins Golden Globe Award was introduced as Best Comedy Actress. Even when notified of responses to the so-called " long-list " had been found only in three categories into account Leigh's comedy.
With the prize of BAFTA, the Academy Fellowship, the film director Terry Gilliam was excellent. With Gilliam one of the " most original, the most imaginative and innovative directors " of the present 'm honored, it said in the court's opinion.
