Albillos

Albillos is a municipality ( municipio ) with 221 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013) in the province of Burgos in the northern Spanish Autonomous Region of Castile -Leon.

Location

Albillos is located on the Río Ausin in the Castilian plateau ( meseta ) at a height of about 830 meters above sea level. inst and is about 14 km ( driving distance ) to the southwest of the city of Burgos. The nearby towns of Arcos de la Llana and Villariezo are only about five and seven kilometers southeast.

Demographics

In the second half of the 19th and in the first half of the 20th century, the population fluctuated constantly between about 200 and 300 inhabitants. After the mechanization of agriculture led to a migration of part of the population in the cities. Due to the proximity to Burgos and the relatively low land prices, the population has increased slightly since the turn of the millennium.

Economy

The region is significantly influenced by agriculture for centuries. Tourism ( Rentals ) plays only a minor role.

History

In a document from the year 994 the place Albiellos is first mentioned. Nearby is a small monastery must have existed, because in connection with the venerated relics there was a second mention in the year 1045 under the name Aluiellos. In 1222 the place belonged to the basic rule ( señorio ) of the Hospital del Rey in Burgos. A few decades later the city came under the rule of the Archdiocese of Burgos, where he remained until the dissolution of the church property ( desamortisación ) in the 1830s.

Attractions

• The small parish church of Santa María la Mayor was originally a single-nave Romanesque building with a south porch ( portico ) in which hides a late Romanesque and early Gothic portal. In the 15th century it received a vierjochiges aisle on the north side. The bell tower is a strange cross between a bell gable ( espadaña ) and a west tower.
• The mighty on a square floor plan built Torre de Albillos dates from the 15th century and was dismantled in the 1970s to its original, about a kilometer distant location, stone by stone and rebuilt here; doing some additional windows were inserted. The tower is now prominent and representative part of a hotel or restaurant.
• Three small stone bridges and two former water mills stand on the territory of the municipality.
