Altes Schloss Bümpliz

The Old Castle is a castle in Bümplizstrasse Bümplizstrasse, a suburb of Bern, Switzerland.

It goes back to the 9th century a wooden fortification built as hochburgundischen court. This later passed into the possession of various local noble and patrician families was provided in the 11th century with a moat, turned into a round stone tower in the 13th century and extended in the 15th century the castle. 1742 next to the old castle now known as the New Castle Bümplizstrasse was built.

1919 Old Castle to a non-profit community house was also transformed with a restaurant, a library and a kindergarten. In 1954 it was purchased by the city of Bern and had it from 1979 to 1980 total remodel. Today, the castle houses a restaurant and the local archive Bümplizstrasse and serves as a rehearsal room for the Bern Conservatory.
