The latter belonged until 1947 to the district calbe in Magdeburg Region of the Prussian Province of Saxony. The two circles Aschersleben and Staßfurt had been formed in 1952 regardless of the current regional history, as the East German government dissolved the country, the number of circles enlarged and 14 districts einrichtete. Administrative Reform

When the district reform of 2007, the district Aschersleben - Staßfurt was fused with the county Beautiful Beck and the county Bernburg to new Salzlandkreis. County seat of the newly formed county was Bernburg (Saale ).

On August 28, 2005, from the citizens' initiative "Pro resin" initiated referendum was held. This had collected 8,000 signatures to and thus obtains the first referendum at the county level in Saxony- Anhalt. This was due to the fact that a significant portion of the public ( esp. in the former Altkreis Aschersleben ) was against the merger with Bernburg and Beautiful Beck and instead favored a merger in the direction of resin.

You must decide whether the cities and towns of the district Aschersleben - Staßfurt to be part of a newly formed district resin in the wake of the district reform, or whether the policy decision of the District Council to form a new district with the current counties Bernburg and Beautiful Beck ( Salzlandkreis ) is maintained. The council had refused to consult citizens on this issue.

In this referendum 60.38 % of voters voted for the resin circle, 39.62 % against ( turnout 39.9 %). Thus, the necessary for a successful referendum 20,900 votes were (equivalent to 25 % of eligible voters ) only 879 votes missed ( 23.9 % agreement in terms of all eligible voters ). Especially in the old district of Aschersleben the approval of the resin circle ( up to 95 %) and the turnout (up to 70 %) was very high. In Staßfurter room, turnout was significantly lower, but similarly high values were recorded at negative votes. The reasons for these negative votes was mainly in the historically contingent bond of Staßfurter region with the Elbe- Saale- salt land area.
