The Assembleia da República [ ɐsẽ'blɐiɐ dɐ ʁɛ'publikɐ ] ( German Assembly of the Republic ) is the Portuguese parliament. The Portuguese Constitution they referred to in Article 147 as "the representative assembly of all Portuguese citizens," and in Article 110 as a constitutional " sovereign body " next to the President of the Republic, the Government and the courts. In Portugal, the unicameral applies.

Background

The Assembleia da República consists of a chamber with up to 230 delegates and has its headquarters in the Palácio de São Bento in Lisbon. Deputies are elected for four years, and the pure proportional representation applies. The President has the right to dissolve parliament and to organize new elections. The Parliament has the right to express their distrust of the government to initiate impeachment proceedings against the President, and to change the constitution by a two -thirds majority.
