The current 1 Series BMW (internal: F20 - five-door, F21 - three-door ) serves the compact class segment. It was introduced in mid-2011 as the successor to the E87 series and is produced at the BMW plant in Regensburg, March 1, 2012, the BMW plant in Leipzig. The car with rear-wheel drive is the manufacturer's entry-level model.
The official launch of the F20 was held on June 5, 2011. The launch was on 17 September 2011.

Models
As the first model in the series, the five-door hatchback (F20 ) came on the market. The three-door hatchback (F21 ) was followed in September 2012. The coupe ( E82 ) and convertible ( E88 ) of the old 1 series in 2014 replaced by the 2- series.
The platform shall notify the F20 with the sales since the beginning of 2012 BMW 3 Series (F30 ).

Significant differences with the previous
- Even with the launch of two trim levels ( Sport Line and Urban Line ) were available.

Car set
About a driving experience switch on the center console, engine characteristics, driving stability control, characteristic of the steering and the switching program and the shift dynamics of the automatic transmission can be changed. Steering, suspension and brakes

The front suspension consists of a double-joint spring strut aluminum lightweight construction with a strut. The rear axle on the other hand, there is (on each side ) from five arms in lightweight steel construction with a double elastic storage.
As standard, all models feature a rear-wheel drive. Optionally available for the 120d and the M135i from September 2012, the all-wheel drive system BMW xDrive.
The brake system is working the front with vented single-piston calliper disc brakes. Rear also get single-piston calliper disc brakes are used. The F20 has a regenerative braking: The battery is recharged by the generator primarily in the braking and coasting mode.
Optional eight - speed automatic transmission
Upon request, an eight -speed automatic gearbox transmits power. Due to the high spread of gears the speed level and the noise level at high speeds were lowered. Callbacks
On October 1, 2013 BMW has recalled about 176,000 vehicles of the models of the 1 Series, 3 Series and 5- Series, X1 and X3 SUV and Z-4 sports cars worldwide, including 6,000 vehicles in Germany. Environment
