Extension

District of Mansfeld - Suedharz

After opening of the new section of the South Harz highway A 38 between Nordhausen and Roßla the B 85 was extended in Berga in the district of Mansfeld- Suedharz from the junction with the former B80 to form the highway.

Kyffhauserkreis / district Sömmerda

With the opening of the last part of the piece of the A 71 in December 2014, the federal road is to be laid. It is published at the roundabout sculpting valley on the current L 1058. Next they then to take the A 71 at Sömmerda, on the local bypass Sömmerda to B 4 at Straußfurt. There, they will end in the future. The old main road will be diverted to the B 176 ( Kölleda - Dermsdorf ) and B 86 (Saxony Burg- Hill ). The sections of sculpting Thal to Kölleda and Dermsdorf Sachsenburg be redirected to the highway.

County Kronach

In the north of the district Kronach the highway connecting Foertsch village and Steinbach overcomes the forest for a distance of three kilometers, about 100 meters height difference. In wintry conditions, there was on the stretch, which had several relatively narrow curves with radii between 80 and 130 meters in combination with steep climbs, often disabling by broken-down trucks. Therefore, the road is to be extended to the end of 2014 with three lanes shallower climbs and larger curve radii of 200 to 300 meters. The first, about 1.9 kilometer section of Foertsch village to the junction with the county road KC 18 was officially released in the fall of 2012 after two years of construction. The 1.4 -kilometer-long second section of the confluence of the county road to Steinbach am Wald is to be built in the years 2013/14. Total construction costs in the amount of twelve million euros have been estimated for the completion of the entire route. A special feature of the project provide the necessary extensive slope stabilization work is: For space reasons, the slope of the mountain side of the road a much steeper angle than usually common. To minimize the risk of rock falls, the slope of the already completed section, on an area of 30,000 square meters with steel nets that are attached with 7000 rock nails, hedged.

District of Kulmbach

In two years of construction, a 3.5 km long section in the northern city of Kulmbach was expanded. Previously, the main road was passed over a narrow and winding path through the forest and Lösauer was an accident black spot. The Federal Road was leveled, increased the curve radius and the carriageway widened.

In planning a four-lane expansion of the main road from the southern city of Kulmbach to the junction Kulmbach / Neudrossenfeld is with the federal motorway 70 Violent protests of citizens who have been stopped the construction project, now wants to reduce the project to a three-lane route in the 2-1 system. From the public side is the justification for the extension that you want to Kulmbach better connectivity to the highway, to bring more industry and commerce in the city. Opponents point out that a time saving of not even two minutes to seven kilometers of this major project is not quite finished and it will also lead to an increased noise of the local residents, who are not opposed WOULD enough.

County Schwandorf

In October 2009, the four-lane expansion of B was completed at 85 Wacker village in the administrative district Schwandorf after two years of construction. In December 2009, the four-lane extension of the B85 between Altenschwand and Bodenwoehr was completed.

District of Cham

In the district of Cham, the B85 is very well developed, further expansion plans are.

He has since been on two separated by a guardrail lanes in each direction. Since this stretch is exclusively on Cham city and connects individual neighborhoods with three connection points, he is also known as " Cham city highway " in the vernacular. In addition, the B85 is expanded north of Neubäu four lanes.

A continuous four-lane expansion of B 85 from the motorway junction 33 " Schwandorf Center" to Cham -south (about 50 kilometer) sees the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 2003 until the so-called "Special Requirements " before, ie after 2015.

Since August 7, 2010 Ortsumgehung Chameregg is passable. This 1.9 km long and four million Euro building was created from April 2009 to August 2010.

According to the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development to be taken with an investment volume of around 200 million euros in attack in the district of Cham other road projects. In the near future, the B85 will be expanded rain in the district by passing lanes are built in several places.

It is planned to combine the accident-prone branches " Rehau " and " Anthony" in the municipality Viechtach. The highway department Passau introduced in 2013 plans of a bridge over the B85, two roundabouts and a total of seven adjacent tracks. The four- million-euro project is very controversial among Viechtachern. Until the opening to traffic is to regulate traffic at the entrance Rehau a traffic light.

In Ayrhof the highway will be expanded to three lanes at the rest stop Aitnach.

East of Viechtach the diversion in remote village and the crossing of the B 85 was equipped with a separate lane. This intersection and the intersection Ayrhof was equipped with crossing aids.

The confluence of the B 11 in the B 85 in the area of community Patersdorf should also be strengthened. Here you can see the development of variants of a roundabout or a grade-separated crossing.

On Marcher mountain west of rain on August 19, 2013, the groundbreaking ceremony for the 1.4 km long and 3.5 -million-euro three-lane expansion to, let it flow better the traffic that is blocked by ice in the winter and slow trucks.

In addition, the subsequent route to Preying is not expanded. It has tight curves, a narrow road cross-section and steep inclines. Here is a complete new building is planned in the medium term. This section should have a length of 4.0 km and cost 12.3 million euros. Here also a feeder road from Grafenau about Thurmannsbang after Eging to be connected to the B 85.

All three projects are classified as " other requirements " in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan.

Passau district

From 8 August 2005 to 21 July 2009, it was built on the bypass of Neukirchen vorm Wald in the district of Passau. The 5.2 km long route cost 19.6 million euros. The first part of this avoidance for customs mountain was in September 2007, provisional and early August 2008 in full operation. The bypass Neukirchen followed a year later on 21 July 2009.
