Clan Farquharson

Farquharson is the name of a Scottish clan, who hails from Aberdeenshire. The name comes from a forester of the 15th century called Farquhar.

History

The 4th Chief, Donald could win Invercauld by marriage as the headquarters of the clan. The 5th Chief, Finlay Mor, fell in 1547 during the Battle of Pinkie Cleugh in which he had supported the king. The clan remained loyal to the Stuarts and also fought under Montrose and Bonnie Dundee and during the First Jakobitenaufstandes 1715 Preston for their cause. At the Second Jacobite Rising in 1745 refused by the Chief to support the Stuarts, which meant that his wife led the Farquharson.

The motto of the clan is Fide et fortitudine ( "Through loyalty and strength ").
