Clan Menzies

Menzies is the name of a Scottish clan, which originated from the area between Perth and the Great Glen.

History

He was first mentioned in an early form in 1249, when Alexander III. appointed by Scotland Sir Robert de Meyners the Lord High Chamberlain. Robert's son, Alexander acquired Weem Aberfeldy and received and of Robert the Bruce as a reward for his support of the baronies of Glendochart and Durisdeer. In the Jakobiteraufständen of 1715 and 1745 the Menzies were clearly on the side of the rebels and were so both times on the losing side. The clan seat until 1910, when the direct family line ended, Castle Menzies Weem in. In 1957 it was purchased and restored by the Menzies Clan Society.

The motto of the clan is Vill God I Zall ( "I will, God willing ").
