Clarmont

Clarmont is a municipality in the district of Morges in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Clarmont is at 525 m above sea level. M., 5.5 km north-west of the district capital Morges ( straight line ). The farming village extends on a small Verebnungsfläche on a sloping hillside to the south west of the Valley of Morges, in a scenic location around 130 m above the lake level of Lake Geneva.

The area of ​​only just 1.0 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Vaud Mittelland hinterland of Morges. The communal land stretches along the western flank of Morges and ranges in the north to the Bois des Crêts. Below En Lèvremont, one belonging to Apple's settlement is at 580m above sea level. Population

With 141 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Clarmont one of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Vaud. Of the 87.3% inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 4.9 % and 2.1 % Italian-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Clarmont amounted in 1850 to 145 residents in 1900 to 129 inhabitants. Economy

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1204 under the name Claro Monte. The place name comes from the Latin words clarus (light) and mons ( mountain). Since the Middle Ages Clarmont belonged to the rule Vufflens -le- Château. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of Kastlanei Vuillerens in the bailiwick of Morges. After the collapse of the ancien régime Clarmont belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the district of Morges. Clarmont does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish Colombier.
