Geography

Lussy -sur -Morges is located at 458 m above sea level. M., 3.5 km west of the district capital Morges ( straight line ). The village is located on a gently sloping hillside to the south in the Vaud Mittelland, a scenic location about 80 m above the lake level of Lake Geneva.

The area of ​​2.3 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Vaud Central Plateau north of Lake Geneva. The slightly inclined slope of Lussy is (also a tributary of the Boiron ) bounded on the south by the small valley of the Boiron de Morges, on the west side of his Bach Irence and on the east by Blacon. Population

With 638 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Lussy -sur -Morges one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Vaud. Of the 87.7 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 4.5 % and 3.5 % in English (as of 2000). The population of Lussy -sur -Morges amounted in 1900 to 165 inhabitants. Since 1960 (159 inhabitants), a rapid population increase was recorded with almost a quadrupling of the population within 40 years.

Economy

Lussy -sur -Morges was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the agriculture and viticulture have an important role in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available. In recent decades, the village has developed thanks to its attractive location into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in Morges and Lausanne.

Traffic

The community is easily accessible via normal, although it is off the major thoroughfares on a main road from Lully to Villars -sous -Yens. History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1026 as in villa Luciaco. Later, the names Lusci ( 1177 ) published, Luxie ( 1228 ), Lussie (1230 ), Luxye ( 1279 ) and Lussiez ( 1453). The place name comes from the Latin personal name Lucius. Around the year 1000 a priory was founded in Lussy -sur- Morges, which was under until the Reformation, the Abbey of Saint -Maurice.

With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of the bailiwick of Morges. Since 1746 formed Lussy -sur -Morges own little rule. After the collapse of the ancien régime, the village belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the district of Morges. The place was repeatedly ravaged by severe fires, most recently on 26 September 1866.

Attractions

The present building of the parish church of Saint -Maurice, 1177 mentioned as a priory, is from 1759. Also this year, the parsonage was built. The house Delessert has a late Gothic portal under a wooden gallery. In the center some characteristic agricultural and wine farmhouses dating from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved.
