Cornillon

Cornillon is a commune of the department of Gard in the Languedoc- Roussillon region. Administratively, it is assigned to the Canton of Pont -Saint -Esprit and the district of Nîmes.

Geography

The medieval southern French village with 937 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) is located on a 80 -meter-high rocky outcrop 44 km northeast of Nîmes and is operated by the department of road D980.

The municipality covers next to the village core ( Cornillon Village ) the hamlet Cabrol, La Vérune, Saint Nabor, Saint Gely, novel, Talazargues, Cazerneau, private and Ivagnas.

The Place du Barry above in the ruins offers an impressive view of the valley of the Cèze.

History

The story of Cornillon is strongly associated with its castle, which dates back to the 13th century. Long the place has lost its once strategic importance, but thanks to the development of tourism and gastronomy, the population has grown steadily in recent years.

  • For over a century, the castle of the De Sibert family belongs. It is now used as a theater, but is still open to the public.
