Saint-Quentin-la-Poterie

Saint- Quentin- la -Poterie is a municipality with 2958 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in France, in the department of Gard in the Languedoc- Roussillon region. It is the birthplace of Joseph Monier (1823 - 1906), one of the most important inventors of reinforced concrete.

Its inhabitants are called Saint- Quentinois (s).

The village is about 5 km north of Uzès and 30 km north of Nîmes. Since the twelfth or thirteenth century pottery is operated since the 19th century, the production of sound and meerschaum pipes. Saint- Quentin was given the additional name La Poterie ( pottery ) in 1886 by a decree of President Jules Grévy, to distinguish it from the 142 other French villages with the name of Saint- Quentin. After a period of decline, the pottery has been since 1983, brought back to life and presented in a Musée de la Poterie Méditerranéenne.
