Domodedovo (town)

Domodedovo ( russian Домодедово ) is a town in Moscow Oblast in Russia, with 96 145 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ). It is located 37 km south of Moscow. Nearest towns are around 20 km away and Podolsk Vidnoye.

History

The first settlements on the site of the present city have already been mentioned in a document of the year 1401. Since the area was already at that time located conveniently technically situated on a road from Moscow to Kashira, they represented a popular residential location dar. To this day, preserved remains of former estates still remember the former prosperity of the villages. In addition to agriculture here also played the white stone made ​​an important role, were built of which, among other magnificent buildings in the " white stone city " Moscow.

On January 19, 1900, the first section of the railway line from Moscow to Kaschira up to Lipetsk was put into operation. This important highway leading past the today's Domodedovo. This accelerated the development of industry near the train station newly created. Over the next few decades, developed from the station settlement a working class neighborhood. This received city rights in 1947 on March 12. From 1969 to 2006, the city was the administrative center of Domodedovo Rajons same name. The latter was dissolved in 2006 and declared a free city circle Domodedovo. At the same time the workers' estate Wostrjakowo and the two settlements Barybino and Belyje Stolby were incorporated to Domodedovo.

Economy and infrastructure

The main operation of the city is the international airport Domodedovo, of 28.2 million passengers per year (as of 2012) is Russia's largest commercial airport.
