Fließem

Fließem is a municipality in the district of Bitburg -Prüm, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Bitburg -Land.

History

Built in the 1st century Roman villa Otrang was discovered in 1825 during excavation work and the mosaic floors found suggest a Roman settlement from that time period. It was later in 1911 two stamps ( Diana and Minerva ) and put them free. Today the villa Otrang is accessible as a museum. Found tombs from the 6th and 7th century BCE, the Roman settlement was captured and used by the Franks.

The first documentary mention learns Fließem in 804 in Prüm goods directory. There is an estate named with a convent church, which was in the possession of Hermann von Vlissheim. Importance was the place with which the Church under Friedrich von Schleiden (1397-1427), an abbot of the Benedictine abbey of Prüm, who gave the church with precious relics. As in 1464, a hundred years of indulgence for visiting the chapel of the monastery was granted, it grew to the Sanctuary.

Since the administrative reform (1970), the community of the municipality Bitburg -Land belongs to.

Name

The name changed several times in the centuries of existing for the place. In Roman times, the settlement was called Flaisteshaimo marca, later it became Wlesheim, during the Middle Ages, it was called Vlissheim, and later, until finally prevailed as Flaistershaim the present name.

Parish council

The local council in Fließem consists of twelve council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Culture and sights

The local church dates from the 13th century.

Events and facilities

In 2004, the congregation celebrated its 1200th anniversary. For the youth of this community, a youth room was set up at the community center. On recreational sports offers Fließem
