Fort Myers Shores is a census -designated place (CDP ) in Lee County in the U.S. state of Florida with 5,487 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Fort Myers Shores is located on the Caloosahatchee River and is affected by the Florida State Roads 31 and 80. The CDP is located about 9 km northeast of Fort Myers. Tampa is located about 200 miles and Miami 230 km away.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 5,487 inhabitants distributed to 2,588 households. The population density was 979.8 inh. / Km ². 84.4 % of the population were white, 4.7% African American, 0.3% Native American and 1.3% Asian Americans. 7.1% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.2% in different ethnic groups. 28.0 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 33.2 % of all households lived in 30.6 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 66.4 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.53 and the average family size is 3.03 people.

25.4% of the population were younger than 20 years, 22.8 % were 20-39 years old, 28.2% were 40-59 years old and 30.3% were at least 60 years old. The median age was 42 years. 49.5 % of the population were male and 50.5 % female.

The average annual income was $ 34,653, while 22.5 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 86.03 % of the population spoke Spanish and 13.97%.
