Matlacha is a census -designated place (CDP ) in Lee County in the U.S. state of Florida with 677 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Geography

Matlacha is located on an island in the strait between Pine Iceland and the Florida mainland in the Gulf of Mexico. Over several bridges in the CDP is connected through the Pine Iceland Road with Pine Iceland and the mainland at Cape Coral. Matlacha is located approximately 23 kilometers west of Fort Myers. Tampa is located about 190 miles and Miami 250 km away.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 677 inhabitants distributed to 626 households. The population density was 1692.5 inh. / Km ². 98.7 % of the population were white, 0.3% African American and 0.4 % Asian Americans. 0.6 % were members of different ethnic groups. 1.0% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 47.8 % of all households lived in 5.4 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 48.3 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 1.68 persons and the average family size was 2.24 persons.

5.4% of the population were younger than 20 years, 7.8% were 20 to 39 years old, 32.7 % were 40-59 years old and 54.0 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 62 years. 50.8 % of the population were male and 49.2% female.

The average annual income was $ 33,182, while 13.9 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 100 % of the population.
