Palmona Park is a census -designated place (CDP ) in Lee County in the U.S. state of Florida with 1,146 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Palmona Park is affected by the Tamiami Trail ( U.S. 41 ) and by the Florida State Road 78 and is located around 5 km north- west of Fort Myers. Tampa is located about 190 miles and Miami 250 km away.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 1,146 inhabitants distributed in 622 households. The population density was 545.7 inh. / Km ². 87.7 % of the population were white, 2.7% African American, 0.5% Native American and 0.5 % Asian Americans. 5.7% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.9% in different ethnic groups. 19.0 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 20.5 % of all households lived in 28.3 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 53.0 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.40 persons and the average family size is 3.07 people.

24.0% of the population were younger than 20 years, 25.8 % were 20-39 years old, 33.5 % were 40-59 years old and 16.8 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 41 years. 53.2 % of the population were male and 46.8 % female.

The average annual income was $ 30,147, while 28.7 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 94.78 % of the population spoke Spanish and 5.22%.
