Iona is a census -designated place (CDP ) in Lee County in the U.S. state of Florida with 15,369 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Iona lies on the southern banks of the Caloosahatchee River, just before its confluence with the Gulf of Mexico. The CDP is crossed by the Florida State Roads 865 and 867. It borders immediately south of Cape Coral and is about 9 km southwest of Fort Myers. Tampa is located about 210 miles and Miami 230 km away.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 15,369 inhabitants distributed to 13,224 households. The population density was 830.8 inh. / Km ². 94.9 % of the population were white, 1.1% African American, 0.2% Native American and 1.0 % Asian Americans. 1.7% were members of other ethnic groups and 1.2% in different ethnic groups. 5.6% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.
